Design Takeaways
For my last Design Week at Sheridan, I took part in creating a horror-themed game that captured the emotion of being scared. As someone who isn't invested in horror media in general, it was a fun challenge to go outside of my area of expertise.
Horror games place a heavy reliance on atmosphere, alongside good sound design to make an engaging experience. I spent time thinking about how gameplay elements could work as complimentary components to add to the framework of the atmosphere.
The varied tasks are used to bring the player around the map layout, allowing them to focus more on the sounds and unsettling rooms. I also gained experience adapting the build to work in a WebGL format. The lighting tools would not work within the web format, and are only in the download. To avoid issues, they were disabled within the Unity Editor.
